IGAU Identified 9 Biodiversity Hotspots in Chhattisgarh and Sanjeevani rice

International Biodiversity Day is celebrated every year on 22 May to promote and conserve biodiversity.

Indira Gandhi Agricultural University (IGAU) has identified 9 biodiversity hotspots in Chhattisgarh. Among these, to make Bastar region a mega biodiversity hotspot a proposal has been submitted to the National Biodiversity Authority (NBA) Chennai .

The special contribution to celebration of agricultural biodiversity is Sanjeevani rice. Which is the first medicinal rice variety of the state and the country to be capable of increasing the body’s immunity and preventing cancer cell growth.

  • IGAU has received two awards for the use of germplasm, include Dr. S.K. Vasal Award in the year 2022 and the Best Center Award in the Annual Rice Group Meeting New Delhi in the year 2023.
